IN CONVERSATION WITH : UNTITLED AT LEEDS FESTIVAL
When untitled posted a video of a riff for their then unfinished song, ‘Restless’ on TikTok at the end of summer 2025, they had no idea that their lives were about to change forever. The video of the young grunge rockers jamming in drummer Lorenzo’s garage went viral over night, racking up over 2 million streams and garnering attention from industry professionals and fans alike.
With a raw and unpolished sound the band drew comparisons to 90’s greats like Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins, honing their craft the old school way playing anywhere they could. Be that the garage, parties and even a tattoo parlour.
After building momentum on home soil across the pond, the band headed over to the UK, where we grabbed them for a chat ahead of their set at Leeds Festival – their first ever UK show.
Here’s how it went down.
Q: So first thing’s first, where did you get the name from?
Danny: We’re basically a band with no name (laughing). We had a school show coming up called Spring Fest and we had no name. For about 6 months I was trying to think of a name and we were like fuck it let’s just go with Untitled.
Q. Is this your first time in the UK?
Danny: It’s mine and his second time (pointing at Juan), but as a band yes.
Lorenzo: This is our first ever UK show so we’re excited, it’s going to be fun!
Q. You’re used to playing in some pretty unusual places, what’s the weirdest place you’ve ever played?
Danny: I’m saying The Woodbury.
James: I wasn’t going to say that but that is a good one. I think it’s the tattoo parlour. The drum set was one of the smallest drum sets I’ve ever seen in my life… but we still managed to make it work.
Lorenzo: It was a kick, a snare, a high hat and a crash. It was like one of those travel kits, basically like a child’s one.
Danny: When I walked in I was like oh my god, Lorenzo’s gonna die.
Q. You’ve had a pretty crazy year - your debut single now has millions of streams; talk us through what happened.
Danny: The song wasn’t even done at that point - we had only made the riff earlier that day! Me and Lorenzo were in the garage and I said: “We’ve not posted jn forever, let’s put it on TikTok.” Then it blew up and we were like – “what the hell!”.
My phone was going crazy; I was waking up every day to like 200 notifications.
Lorenzo: Me and Danny were still attending Santa Monica community college at the time, and every day in between classes we would be checking like woah it got 100,000 views today.
Q. Has it been difficult to adjust to all of the attention?
Juan: Yes!
Danny: Yeah, I think it’s come with a lot of pressure.
Q. We can imagine, because you guys haven’t been a band for very long really. When did you start playing music together?
Danny: The first show we ever played was in April of 2025. But we’ve been jamming all together for a while.
Lorenzo: We’ve been a band for a little over a year really.
Q. Have you met any artists along the way who have been a bit of a mentor to you?
Juan: Jacob and Zayn from Sublime.
Danny: They’re so nice and they helped us to produce our album. We’ve also worked with Chris Lord-Alge.
Lorenzo: He’s worked with people like Greenday.
Danny: - and Paramore … you know, tiny little bands (laughing).
Q. You’ve had a lot of comparisons to Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins, what draws you to that kind of music?
Danny: I think we just grew up on it, our parents listened to it, so it came naturally. When we play a show, all I want is to play songs to get the crowd moving and having fun.
Q. You’ve just released a new track, ‘Tinted View’ can you tell us a little bit about it?
Danny: After we met Chris Lord- Alge we went to the garage and immediately started jamming on that riff. I think the pressure of working with all of these big people made us want to start making the best songs that we could. We signed a deal with the label which meant we had to finish the album within six months.
James: We only had the one song out at the time.
Lorenzo: Yeah we didn’t have any prior material.
James: It was a race against time to get more stuff out. We also wanted to get stuff out now that we actually have eyes on us, so we can show that we’re more than just one good song.
Danny: I think we finished the song in a week, so the pressure helped.
Q. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Juan: We didn’t really have time to be inspired. It was more like “Okay we have two weeks until the studio, what are we gonna do”
So we all took one week to write riffs at home and work on them, then one week to polish them enough to be able to play them in a studio session. – it was super nerve wracking in there. Lorenzo was all locked away in a little isolation drum room.
Danny: We could see him through the glass like on Locked Up.
Q. When can we expect to hear the album?
Danny: We’re looking to release it either late this year or early next year I think. Can you guess what we wonna call it?
‘Self Titled’ (all laugh). We’re all out of creative ideas.
Q. What’s one thing you can’t live without on tour?
Danny: Each other (all laugh).
Lorenzo: Let’s not push it.
Juan: I brought a Nintendo. I just started Pokémon Sword cause it’s based in the UK.
Danny: I think my hair cream, cause my hair gets so puffy by itself.
James: Normally I would say sun glasses, but I lost em.
Lorenzo: Ear plugs. These guys snore.
James: We have voice recordings of it, we’re gonna sample them on a song.
Q. As we are called Pass It On Magazine we ask all of our artists to pass on a question to the next artist. Your question is from The Guest List, they asked: “What is your least favorite song that you have written?”
Juan: Pop Song!
Danny: Pop Song wasn’t that bad.
James: We have filler names for all of our songs – so we have Pop Song, Punk Song, Blues Song and so on. There was one called Start Stop that we just couldn’t get.
Lorenzo: It didn’t have groove, it didn’t make sense, it just felt like we were just trying something for the sake of trying a gimmick. I think when you’re trying to write so many songs in so little time you drive yourself crazy. You think its good in the moment and you listen back to it and it’s total bullshit.
Juan: You either think you’re a total genius for writing the most basic thing or you feel super done with anything that you do even if it’s good.
