FONTAINES D.C. REVEAL DARK, SURREALIST ‘MARIANNE’ AS THEY ANNOUNCE THEIR FIFTH STUDIO ALBUM ‘DOPAMINE CHAMBER’
After the world-wide success of their last Mercury-nominated record Romance in 2024, the Irish rockers Fontaines D.C. have stepped into a darker, more ominous outfit with their latest single Marianne.
With frontman Grian Chatten still delivering his incredible lyrics in his typical mantra-like fashion, accompanied with an other-worldly string accompaniment, there is no doubt that this band have continued to evolve through their career by constantly pushing creative boundaries and testing the waters of popular music.
Upon listening to the track, Marianne sounds like it could be straight out of a David Lynch thriller - cinematic in its hypnotising, dream-like production, yet sinister with edge and clear power.
“The album itself is a dopamine chamber. You step inside and we test these different mind or mood-altering pieces of music on you. There’s a poignant sense of us being on the brink of some other kind of form of humanity, or non-humanity.”
- Grian Chatten
Speaking on the memory of their late friend and manager - Trevor Dietz - Conor Deegan says,
“Marianne is a song that would’ve never seen the light of day if it wasn’t for Trev. It was left on the cutting room floor of the 40 songs we wrote for Dopamine Chamber. We were at his in Brighton one evening showing him all the songs, and he said ‘yere absolute lunatics’ for wanting to leave this song off the album. So we brought it back, and now it’s the first single off our next album Dopamine Chamber. An album that suddenly feels more fitting to our lives than we thought it would be when writing it. This album is dedicated to Trev, all he gave us, all he taught us.”
Fontaines D.C.’s fifth studio album Dopamine Chamber will be released on the 16th October 2026, produced by the infamous James Ford via XL Records, with the record available to pre-order now.
